This is a fallacy. You can&#039;t selectively activate portions of a single muscle - the pectoralis major is either contracting or not - decline press does not target &quot;lower&quot; fibers. You cannot selectively target any portion of a muscle group. You either cause contraction in the pectoralis major or you don&#039;t. It is a myth that decline press hits &quot;lower&quot; fibers or helps &quot;shape&quot; the pecs in any particular fashion.</description>
